On the morning of February 22, 2010, just before 7:00 am, Long Beach Fire Department units were dispatched to 775 Stanley Avenue to a report of a house fire. Responding units were able to see a large column of smoke rising from the area to which they were responding. \u00a0Engine 2 was first to arrive on scene and found a 2-story Victorian era home with flames rolling from the first floor windows.\u00a0 The crew mounted an aggressive interior attack while other companies performed a diligent search of the residence for victims.\u00a0 Due to the early hour and severity of the fire, an accurate accounting of all residents was a necessity.\u00a0 It took fire crews 15 minutes to bring the blaze under control.\u00a0 The first floor was heavily damaged by fire while smoke damage was extensive on the second.\u00a0 Fortunately, home smoke detectors were in place and functioning and alerted the family to the danger.\u00a0 All members of the family were able to escape their burning home safely.\u00a0 Had there been no smoke detectors or no working batteries in them, this fire could have ended very differently.\u00a0 A total of 3 adults and 4 children were displaced as a result of this early morning fire and were provided shelter from the American Red Cross. The cause of this fire is currently under investigation.\u00a0 Damage estimates exceed $100,000.\u00a0 A total of 27 firefighters responded to this incident.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
