{"id":2690,"date":"2010-12-27T15:25:30","date_gmt":"2010-12-27T23:25:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/firechannel.org\/blog\/?p=2690"},"modified":"2010-12-28T13:06:37","modified_gmt":"2010-12-28T21:06:37","slug":"a-holiday-recap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/firechannel.org\/blog\/?p=2690","title":{"rendered":"A Holiday Recap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"left\">ngg_shortcode_0_placeholder<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Well another holiday season has come and gone and the Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) has once again had another busy and very successful December of holiday events.\u00a0 The LBFD wants to thank all of those that were involved with each function that made them a success.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">Things kicked off again with the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at The Pike with Station 13 in attendance with Santa Claus.\u00a0 A couple of days later the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Street Belmont Shore Parade was a hit with Station 8 kindly hosting another Open House with tons of hot apple cider, hot cocoa, cookies, and candy canes being passed out to the eager parade spectators.\u00a0 This year in the Parade we had the LBFD CERT Team making a strong showing riding on a nicely decorated green big-rig with Christmas lights and all.\u00a0 The Parade finished off in the traditional fashion with Santa Claus in his sleigh on top of Fire Engine 13 saying Merry Christmas to everyone.\u00a0 The following weekend, the Daisy Lane Parade lights lit up the neighborhood as floats went up and down Daisy passing all of the spectators.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">As a way of saying thank you, Farmer\u2019s and Merchant\u2019s Bank once again generously offered apples to the LBFD with Fire Chief Patalano at Station 1 accepting their gift.\u00a0 The LBFD Kids holiday visit to Miller\u2019s Children\u2019s Hospital put smiles on the faces of the many children that were visited by Firefighters and Santa as they enjoyed their gifts.\u00a0 Wrapping up the season on Christmas and Christmas Eve, the crews from Station 13 went the extra mile to provide others with a great holiday.\u00a0 After a severe traffic accident on the 710 Freeway earlier this month left 4 year old Rubin Silva in the Pediatric ICU, the crew of 13A decided to make the Silva family\u2019s Christmas a little brighter by providing toys to the kids and a holiday food basket to the family.\u00a0 On Christmas Day, 13C invited US Marines from Camp Pendleton to join them in a nice home-cooked holiday dinner at the Station as a way of saying thank you for their valued service.\u00a0 The idea came from the realization that not all soldiers get to go home for the holidays to their family.\u00a0 That said, the crew at Station 13 thought it would be nice to offer this as an alternative to spending Christmas alone.\u00a0 The crew also pooled together some money for a couple of gifts to give the soldiers as another way of saying thanks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">December 2010 marked another busy but successful holiday season despite the hardships faced by many.\u00a0 It is always truly amazing to see all of the toys and donations that pour into our toy warehouse each year, not to mention all of the volunteers that come down to help.\u00a0 It is important to remember that this would all not be possible without your kind help and generosity.\u00a0 That being said the LBFD would like to say thank you to everyone that made this Christmas season yet another successful one.\u00a0 Have a safe and Happy New Year.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well another holiday season has come and gone and the Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) has once again had another busy and very successful December of holiday events.\u00a0 The LBFD wants to thank all of those that were involved with each function that made them a success.
