2 Car Crash On South 710 Freeway

By JJohnson | December 31, 2009

At 8:30pm on Wednesday, December 30th a call came in to the Long Beach Fire Department for reports of a 2 car ITA on the South 710 freeway at PCH. Engine 3 was the first unit on scene and reported that there was in fact 2 cars involved and requested an additional Rescue. The Captain called for a Truck to respond for the extrication of one trapped patient as well as having CHP shut down all of the South bound lanes while operations were going on.

Truck 7 was dispatched to the scene and had to travel North on the South bound PCH off-ramp to make access to the scene, due to the freeway closure. The driver was in stable condition, but her legs were pinned under the crumpled front end of her mid-size sedan. It took the Truck crew less than 10 minutes to “pop the drivers door” with the Hurst equipment. She was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. There was also one other patient taken by BLS to the hospital.
