Backpack Donation
By Steve Yamamoto | September 6, 2011
On Tuesday, September 06, 2011, the Long Beach Fire Department was asked to make a donation of school supplies for a group of children challenged by economic hardships. The request was made by the California Recreation Center of Long Beach located at 1550 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Through the efforts of our Spark of Love coordinator Firefighter Will Nash, 14 backpacks with school supplies were put together with donated funds. Those supplies included pens, papers, notebooks, journals, rulers, and other items to help these children succeed in school. The highlight of the event was definitely when Engine 1 stopped by to say hello to the grateful students that were about to start off their school year right.
