This afternoon around 3:20pm on April 5th, 2009, Long Beach FD units were dispatched to the 5800 block of Atlantic Ave. for reports of a structure fire. While en route, the LBPD advised that they were on scene and reported flames and heavy smoke showing through the roof. Engine 11 arrived within 3 mins and immediately began an aggressive fire attack while Truck 11 went to the roof to ventilate the structure. Engine 9 and 12 backed up 11’s with additional hose lines to fight the fire.
Heavy smoke was reported inside, but little fire showing. T11 reported they cut multiple holes with heavy flame showing from each, thus the fire was running the attic. Units inside worked with T11’s captain to coordinate where the fire was going. Noticing the need for additional resources and man-power, BC3 called for a 2nd Alarm. The fire was knocked down within 20 minutes and no injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported. Public works were called out to board-up the roof and a building inspector was also called out for damge to the roof and building.
Total Units on scene included: E11, T11, R11, E9, E12, BC3, PIO4, E7, T7, E10, E18, E6 & USAR 6, R12, BC1, BC2, Arson 1, Arson 4, E24 & Hazmat 24.
