Multi Casualty Traffic Accident With An Ejected 2 Year Old
By Jackawa Jackson | July 23, 2009
At 7:18 am on the morning of July 23, 2009, Long Beach Fire Department units were dispatched to a report of a vehicle accident at the corner of Pacific and Anaheim. Once on scene E3 crewmembers found that there were 7 patients involved including a 2 year old who had been ejected from a vehicle. Both vehicles sustained significant front-end damage in the collision. The 2 year old was not in a car seat at the time of the accident. The child’s mother also had in the car her two other children. All 4 were transported to a local trauma center with moderate injuries. Three patients, from the other vehicle, were also transported to local hospitals with minor injuries. This type of incident demonstrates the absolute necessity for all drivers and passengers of vehicles to be properly restrained. If child car seats are not used properly, the child will become a projectile in the event of an accident. The cause of this accident is currently under investigation. A total of 17 firefighters and 4 civilian ambulance operators responded to this accident.
