Upstairs Bedroom Fire on Olive
By Steve Yamamoto | January 8, 2011
At approximately 11:20 pm on Friday, January 7, units from the Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) responded to a call for a house fire on the 4400 block of Olive Ave. Truck 11 arrived on scene within five minutes and saw that there was a moderate amount of black smoke coming from the second story window. Truck crews quickly laddered the roof and ventilated it with their chainsaws to relieve the immense heat and smoke inside. The Firefighters below initiated an aggressive interior attack with their hoses after making their way upstairs and through the front door. Once the fire was located in the back bedroom it was knocked down within 14 minutes of the call. Fortunately the bedroom door had been closed and prevented the fire from spreading throughout the upstairs unit. The occupant of the home made it outside safely and no injuries were reported. Although this fire was confined to the one bedroom of the unit, damages were estimated at around $50,000 and the occupant was displaced until repairs could be made. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
There were a total of seven Fire Department apparatus and 21 personnel operating on scene of this fire that took place in the 8th Council District.
