On the afternoon of Saturday, July 12, Rescue Boat 2, 4 and Boat 15 responded to the Long Beach Light for reports of two sailboats that had crashed into each other. The two vessels had been sailing with each other, and during a turn, impacted. the impact caused one of the boats to lose its mast, causing a serious problem. Neither boat could navigate away from each other, and the current was pushing them closer to the rocks. The crews from Rescue Boat 2, 4 and Boat 15 used hand tools, power tools and pure strength to seperate the boats. Luckily, no one was injured in the crash and although the boats suffered significant damage, neither took on any water and were able to be towed into safe harbor for repair.
