Trapped Driver Rescued after Hitting a Tree

By Steve Yamamoto | November 26, 2010

At about 11:30 am on Wednesday, the Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) was called out to the scene of a driver that had become trapped after hitting his car into a tree at a high rate of speed. Engine 5 quickly responded to Los Coyotes Diagonal near Park Ave. and was first on-scene confirming that the patient was indeed trapped inside the vehicle.  Moments later, Light Force 17 arrived and immediately used to “Jaws of Life” to extricate the victim out of the mangled car.  The victim was then immobilized on a backboard to prevent further injuries and rushed to a local area hospital with life threatening injuries.

Thanks to the quick response and actions of the Firefighters, this patient was safely removed from the wreckage and swiftly taken to the hospital.  The cause of the accident is still currently under investigation.  There were a total of five Fire Department apparatus and 14 personnel operating on scene of this accident that took place in the 4th Council District.
