By frhayes | March 4, 2009

Long Beach – Council member Patrick O’Donnell would like to invite residents to join him, as well as members of the Long Beach Fire Department and the Arts Council, for “Heroes: Stories from the Fire Lines” this Sunday, March 8 from 2:00-5:00 pm.

The event, which is part of this year’s “Visions Voices” cultural festival, will feature oral histories from Long Beach’s firefighters, as well as fire vehicles and apparatus from yesteryear and today.

“This will be a wonderful family event and a great opportunity to learn about the heroes of our City’s history, ” O’Donnell said.

“Heroes” will take place at the Long Beach Fire Department Training Center, which is located at 2249 Argonne Avenue.  The event is a partnership with the Long Beach Fire Department, the Long Beach Arts Council and the Long Beach Fire Museum.  In addition to oral histories and fire equipment displays, a Kids’ Art Corner will be available.

“Visions Voices” is a one-week event, and a merging of the former Smithsonian Week and Long Beach Reads One Book festivals.  Numerous events will be taking place citywide.  For a full listing, please visit www.artslb.org.
