Multiple Casualty Incident At 2300 East Pacific Coast Highway

On April 10, 2009 at  5:53 pm, Long Beach Fire Department units responded to an injury traffic accident with a trapped victim.  Upon arrival, E10 realized the seriousness of the incident and called for additional resources.  There were 3 vehicles involved. A 22 year old female patient who was ejected from her vehicle, a 22 year old male who required extrication from his vehicle as well as 5 other patients including one infant male.  Fortunately the infant male was in a car seat and suffered only minor injuries. There were a total of 3 trauma patients and 4 patients with minor injuries.  It took firefighters 15 minutes to cut the 22 year old male from the wreckage.  First in fire department units arrived on scene within 3-4 minutes from the time of dispatch.  All patients were transported to local hospitals.  Eight Long Beach Fire units responded to this incident including Engine 10, Truck 7, Bc 1, Rescue 10 Rescue 2, Rescue 13 BLS 3, and BLS 17.  The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
