Rider Of A Scooter Struck By A Vehicle

On the morning of August 10, 2009 at 9:59 am Long Beach Fire Department units responded to the corner of Martin Luther King and 7th Street to a report of a vehicle vs. a motorcycle. While responding, further information was received that the rider of the motorcycle may be trapped beneath the car prompting the addition of Truck 1 and a battalion chief to the response. Upon arrival, Engine 2 crewmembers found a scooter crushed beneath the front bumper of a vehicle and it’s rider lying in the middle of the intersection. Fortunately the 20-year-old male rider was not trapped, but he had sustained moderate injuries when he was thrown from his bike in the collision. The injured patient was treated by on scene fire department personnel and transported to a local trauma center. The cause of this accident is currently under investigation. A total of 11 firefighters responded to this incident.
