Long Beach Firefighters and Lifeguards take step for water safety
By frhayes | June 2, 2010
The firefighters and lifeguards that are responsible for response in and around the water conducted water safety training recently at the Belmont Plaza Pool. The purpose of the drill was to teach survival techniques to firefighters and lifeguards that may have fallen in the water wearing full structural protective clothing and breathing from an air supply. Considering the economic situation of the city, these firefighters were able to train on decommissioned gear that cost nothing to the department. The training was a success, as many learned the techniques necessary to survive until help arrives. The video shows a lifeguard taking the equipment through every scenario he could think of trying to fail the gear underwater.
