Small Helicopter Rolls Over At Long Beach Airport
By Jackawa Jackson | October 12, 2010
Just after 12:30 this afternoon, units from the Long Beach Fire Department were called to the Long Beach Airport to a report of a downed helicopter. Once on scene they found a small Robinson R-22 helicopter on its side. In the helicopter, at the time of the crash, were a 24-year-old instructor and a student pilot who appeared to be in his 20’s. It was reported that the helicopter was only 5-6 feet off of the ground at the time of the accident. The student suffered moderate injuries and the instructor’s injuries were minor. Both were transported to a local hospital. Emergency responders quickly contained a small oil and fuel leak. Fortunately there was no fire and no other reported injuries.
