Marine Safety Chief Mark Boone Retirement Reception

Long Beach Fire Department Marine Safety Chief Mark Boone has announced his impending retirement, on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. a farewell reception will be held at the Marine Safety Administration Office located at Station 21 (225 Marina Drive). Please stop by and say farewell to Mark who has served the City and citizens of Long Beach for over 30 years. Refreshments will be served.

Chief Boone began his career with Long Beach in 1976 as a non-career Lifeguard, in 1980 he was hired as a Marine Safety Officer, his first promotion in 1986 was to the rank of Lieutenant then in 1996 he promoted to Captain, and to his present rank of Marine Safety Chief in 1998 to the present date.

All of his formal education was received right here in the City of Long Beach, graduating from Jordan High School in 1974, earning an Associate Fire Science degree in 1976, and a Bachelors degree in business from California State University of Long Beach in 1979.

Chief Boone has accomplished numerous things over his 30 plus year career including: assisting with the merger of of the Marine Safety Division from Parks and Recreation, to the Fire Department in 1994. He has also been instrumental in developing specifications and acquiring Beach Patrol Vehicles and Seaway Fire/Rescue boats. He developed the current Marine Safety Officer probationary training program and assisted with grant funding to upgrade electronic equipment for the two Fire Boats. The Chief was responsible for developing the Dive Team program, and most recently witnessed the first deployment of the Type I Swift Water Rescue Task Forces deployment to assist with the hurricanes in the gulf, that he helped establish.

Chief Boone has exhibited dedication and strong leadership over his career and has served to shape the Marine Department to its industry leading, current efficient operating condition. If there are any questions in regard to Chief Boone’s retirement reception please contact Lori Lopez.
