LBFD 710 Freeway Traffic Accident

On Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at approximately 11:00 a.m. the Long Beach Fire Department responded to the south bound 710 freeway at the Del Amo Street exit for an injury traffic accident. The first arriving unit found two vehicles (one upside down), two semi-trucks, and one CalTrans street sweeper involved in the accident. There were two victims in two of the vehicles that were trapped and required the Jaws of Life to extricate from the wreckage. The LBFD Urban Search and Rescue Task Force responded to the incident to assist with the complex extrication.
One victim was extricated and transported to an area hospital in critical condition by Long Beach Paramedics. Unfortunately one victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The CHP was on scene and is handling the investigation.
