Volunteers Needed for Spark Of Love Toy Warehouse
By frhayes | December 1, 2008
Greetings All –
The holidays are here again and the Long Beach Fire Department’s “Spark of Love” Toy Drive is gearing up for another season to benefit needy children and families in the Long Beach area. The Toy Drive started back in the 50’s with just a few firefighters dipping into their own pockets to help out neighborhood kids in need, and has since turned into a major production serving hundreds of families and charitable groups each year.
The (new and improved) Toy Warehouse is now open for business and will be throughout the month of December. Members of the community and firefighters alike staff this program, so all are invited to stop by and help out. Working at the warehouse includes sorting and bagging toys, and some deliveries. This is actually more fun and social then actual “work”. Regardless, our charitable efforts go a long way in the community, and improving the season for those less fortunate.
The warehouse will be open most weekdays and a few weekends in December from 8 A.M. until 5 P.M. Hours will vary based on the workload, required deliveries, and schedule availability, so if you would like to participate, please call before stopping by. (562) 400-5310. Did I mention there’s FREE coffee, snacks, lunch, and hot cider?
The Toy Central Warehouse is located at: 2760 Studebaker (between Willow and Spring) in Long Beach. We are in the Parks & Recreation Service Yard.
Hope to see you there. If not, have a very Merry (and safe) Christmas.
Sincerely,
Firefighter Will Nash
