Bicycle Rider Struck and Killed by Metro Train

At 1:48pm today, Long Beach Fire Department units responded to reports of a bicycle rider that was struck by a northbound Metro Train just south of the Wardlow Station at the intersection of Pacific Ave and Wardlow Rd. Upon arrival Firefighters discovered what appeared to be a male in his 30’s that had been struck and dragged several hundred feet. Long Beach Paramedics assessed the victim and pronounced him deceased at the scene. A bike was found wedged in the north end of the train. The scene was turned over to authorities from Metro and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for investigation of the cause.
A total of 18 firefighters responded to this incident that occurred in the 7th Council District.
