Apartment Fire On Myrtle Ave

At 11:48 PM on 5/20/09, units responded to a reported apartment fire on the 1000 block of Myrtle Ave. On arrival Engine 10 found smoke and a small amount of fire showing from a side window. E10 and E2 used forcible entry techniques and knocked down the fire quickly. Truck 1 provided lights and fans for horizontal ventilation.
Fire damage was confined to the kitchen and living room, there was some smoke damage to the balance of the residence. A fourth engine was requested to assist with overhaul due to pack rat conditions. LB Gas and Edison confirmed shut off of utilities, Public Service was requested for board up. The residence was left in the possession of the property owners.
Approx. $50,000 fire and smoke damage to 800 sq. ft. apartment.
There were no injuries to firefighters or occupants, however one bird perished and one cat and snake are missing – unable to locate.
