USAR Drill at SA Recycling Center

By Steve Yamamoto | February 9, 2011

On February 6, 2011, the Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) specialized Urban Search And Rescue (USAR) team participated in a metal cutting drill at the SA Recycling Center located in the Port of Long Beach.  This drill was designed to train our USAR members to cut large metal objects in case of a disaster where debris might need to be removed in order to affect a rescue.  These drills are designed to drive home the basic tool techniques for use during “real life” incidents.

The LBFD USAR team is a highly qualified and specialized group of individuals that assemble as a typed California State Regional Task Force.  They constantly train and participate in drills to maintain their knowledge, skills, and abilities to mitigate large-scale incidents both within the City of Long Beach as well as State wide.
