Invitation to Attend Heroe’s: Stories From The Fire Lines Event

Long Beach – Council member Patrick O’Donnell would like to invite residents to join him, as well as members of the Long Beach Fire Department and the Arts Council, for “Heroes: Stories from the Fire Lines” this Sunday, March 8 from 2:00-5:00 pm.
The event, which is part of this year’s “Visions Voices” cultural festival, will feature oral histories from Long Beach’s firefighters, as well as fire vehicles and apparatus from yesteryear and today.
“This will be a wonderful family event and a great opportunity to learn about the heroes of our City’s history, ” O’Donnell said.
“Heroes” will take place at the Long Beach Fire Department Training Center, which is located at 2249 Argonne Avenue. The event is a partnership with the Long Beach Fire Department, the Long Beach Arts Council and the Long Beach Fire Museum. In addition to oral histories and fire equipment displays, a Kids’ Art Corner will be available.
“Visions Voices” is a one-week event, and a merging of the former Smithsonian Week and Long Beach Reads One Book festivals. Numerous events will be taking place citywide. For a full listing, please visit www.artslb.org.

North Town Extrication

On Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 9:31 A.M., Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) units Engine 12, Truck 7, Rescue 11, Battalion Chief 3, Fire Prevention Officer 51 (FP 51) and Basic Life Support (BLS Ambulance 17) responded to a reported injury traffic accident, with a trapped victim On E ARTESIA BLVD, At PARAMOUNT BLVD.
Unit FP 51, the first arriving unit, arrived within three minutes of the initial dispatch. Engine 12, the first arriving apparatus, assessed the situation and determined that extrication would be required by the Truck company using the “Jaws of Life”. Truck 7 used the jaws to remove the driver’s side door, freeing the patient from the vehicle.
The approximately 40 year old, male driver received minor injuries to his left side that were sustained when a pickup truck broadsided his vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle did not receive any injuries requiring treatment. LBFD Paramedics transported the extricated victim to a local hospital in “moderate condition” for further medical interventions. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by the Long Beach Police Department.
This incident occurred in council district 9, with a total of 6 apparatus and 11 personnel responding to this call.

LBFD Fire Station One Extrication

On Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 18:10, Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) units E1, T1, E3, R1, BLS3, BC1, E6, USAR6 and PIO1 responded to a reported injury traffic accident with an Overturned vehicle On the South Bound 710 FWY , At SHORELINE DRIVE
Engine One, the first arriving unit, extricated one patient from the vehicle and provided medical treatment. LBFD Paramedics transported the patient to a local hospital for further assessment and appropriate medical intervention for his injuries.
This incident occurred in council district one with a total of 9 apparatus and 22 personnel responding to this call.
