LBFD Apartment Fire

On Friday, December 13, 2013 at approximately 8:59 p.m. the Long Beach Fire Department responded to an apartment fire in 5500 block of Ackerfield Avenue. The first arriving units found moderate fire and smoke coming from a first floor unit. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly and kept it from spreading to adjacent apartments. Two residents of the apartment sustained injuries. An 11 year old boy suffered 2nd degree burns as well as inhalation injuries. He was treated and transported to a local hospital by Long Beach Fire Department Paramedics in critical but stable condition. An adult female also suffered minor burns and was treated and released at the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No other information regarding this incident is available at this time.
